Act 365 of 1953 established a retirement system (AJRS) for circuit judges, court of appeals judges, and Arkansas Supreme Court justices. The administration and control of the system are vested in the Board of Trustees of AJRS (the Board). The Board is appointed by the Arkansas Judicial Council.
Trustees serve without compensation and are responsible as fiduciaries to protect the long-term value of the system’s investment portfolio and to provide benefit security for members. They are entrusted to invest funds at the highest possible long-term rate of return consistent with appropriate levels of diversity and risk.
The board receives counsel from staff, advisory committees, and investment consultants to help formulate its investment policy.
